Fluor Corporation’s relationship with Greenville Technical College is not just philanthropy — it’s long-term investment in the workforce and educational infrastructure that sustain the Upstate economy. In recognition of Fluor’s longstanding commitment, The Greenville Tech Foundation is honoring the company as a 2026 Champion for Student Success.
Founded in 1912, Fluor established a major presence in Greenville through its 1977 acquisition of Daniel International Corporation. Today, Fluor’s Greenville campus is one of the company’s largest operations, supporting engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance projects across a range of industries worldwide. Greenville is also home to Fluor’s Mission Solutions business, which provides a variety of engineering and construction needs for the U.S. government and all branches of the armed services.
The Fortune 500 company has helped position Greenville as a national center for advanced engineering and high-skill employment, contributing significantly to the region’s economic growth. Beyond Fluor’s business achievements, the company and its employees have provided more than $1 million to Greenville Tech to fund programs like ASPIRE Scholars, the Student Emergency Needs Fund and the Fluor Military Support Endowed Scholarship for veterans transitioning to civilian careers.

Through its Golf for Greenville charity tournament, Fluor recently sponsored the main welding lab, an advanced training hub featuring 80 welding booths, at Greenville Tech’s new Center for Welding and Automation Excellence (CWAE). “Fluor played a critical role in shaping the vision for our Center for Welding and Automation Excellence,” said Dr. Larry Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “Their team helped us identify benchmark facilities across the country, and their guidance ultimately connected us with Liburdi. Without that partnership, we would not be opening the nation’s first AI welding lab.”
“High quality welding is an essential part of almost every industrial construction project. The world-class program that Greenville Tech is establishing at its Center for Welding and Automation Excellence will help address the nationwide shortage of qualified welding professionals and provide high-paying careers for students from across the Upstate,” said Félix R. Alvarado, General Manager of Fluor’s Greenville office. “Fluor is proud to endow the main welding lab through our Golf for Greenville charitable program to help fuel the education, economy and business needs of our region for decades to come.”

Fluor is actively engaged in the Greenville community through philanthropy and employee volunteerism to support its giving priorities of Education, Economic Development, Environment and Public Health and Critical Human Needs. Since 1990, Fluor, the Fluor Foundation and employee-driven efforts have contributed $45.3 million to Upstate nonprofits. Fluor employees serve on nonprofit boards and volunteer throughout the community, from local soup kitchens to hands-on engineering activities in schools.Last year alone, Fluor donated more than 11,000 volunteer hours to Greenville schools and nonprofits. Fluor’s purpose is to “build a better world,” and foundation leaders agree their backing of Greenville Tech and other organizations has assuredly built a better community and solidified their legacy as a Champion for Student Success.
