When Michael Fernandez talks about real estate, he doesn’t start with spreadsheets. He starts with people — and with Greenville.
“I was born and raised here,” said The Citadel graduate and founder of Alpha Equity Group. “I’ve watched this city evolve from an old textile town into one of the Southeast’s most dynamic markets. We still have small-town values — but the opportunity here is big.”
That perspective — local roots, institutional discipline — defines Alpha’s edge. After working in finance and asset management in Denver, Colorado, Fernandez founded Alpha in 2018 to fix what he saw as a broken system: misaligned incentives, excessive leverage and fading trust.
“Principal protection comes before profit,” he said. “Every dollar we deploy is backed by real collateral, managed with discipline and structured for transparency.”
Through Blue Sky Builders and the Catalyst Strategic Credit Fund, Alpha oversees a vertically integrated platform that sources, builds and finances residential and mixed‑use projects across the Carolinas. Catalyst targets 10%-12% preferred returns with monthly distributions and no fund fees — alignment through execution, not theory.
Greenville is more than home base — it’s Alpha’s proof of concept.
“We lend where we live,” Fernandez said. “We drive every site we finance, because proximity beats opacity, and trust is the highest yield.”
