Former chairman of the Louis P. Batson company, Louis P. Batson, Jr., passed away Nov. 16, 2019 at the age of 91.
Batson, an Upstate native, had lived in Greenville since his birth in 1928. A 1948 Clemson graduate, he later served as chairman of the board of trustees for the university. He was also given the Clemson Medallion in 1988 – the school’s highest honor. Batson was a charter member of the Clemson University Founder’s Club, a group of donors who give at least $10,000 annually to Clemson.
Clemson’s president, Jim Clements, was among those who tweeted their remarks concerning the longtime Greenville philanthropist’s passing.

He was a lifetime member at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, where a celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m.
