Downtown hideaway City Tavern reopened with a ribbon cutting June 23, showcasing the bar’s interior upgrades and facade improvements. The business had been closed since March for renovations.
The facade was upgraded in partnership with the city of Greenville through the city’s facade improvement program which allowed for an improvement grant not to exceed $250,000.
“It’s a nice nod to what it was and now it’s something completely different,” said City Tavern founder Scott Woods.
In January, Woods and new co-owners Jeremy Krauze and Chris Rosensteel announced the update would transform the building’s teal blue exterior to a more contemporary design.
Rosensteel also redesigned the menu, adding new items but maintaining some of the old favorites like the wings and Cajun Philly cheese.
Indoors, the restaurant maintains its character with slushie cocktails, and its original signage is displayed on a reclaimed panel of its iconic teal front.
Back in January, Society Sandwich Bar & Social Club co-founders Krauze and Rosensteel said that there will be two new concepts in the upper floors of the space. The projects have not been announced yet.
City Tavern is located at 128 N. Main St.
