South Carolina-based industrial automation engineering firm King Automation will relocate and expand its Spartanburg County operations to Roebuck, S.C. from its current space in Greer. The $4 million investment is aimed at meeting increased customer demand by moving to a larger facility, tripling its production space, equipment and personnel, according to a company spokesman.
Currently located a 133 Runion Road in Greer, King employs 40 people and operates in 10,000 to 30,000 square feet based on current customer contracts and needs. The new 80,000-square-foot space at 4300 Stone Station in Roebuck will house further investments in equipment and 80 new hires over the next five years.
Incorporated in the state in 2005, King Automation engineers manufacturing projects for the automotive industry, as well as automotive warehousing projects for logistics expansions. Company customers include BMW, Benteler, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Target, among others, according to its website. The expansion will better serve the firm’s geographic base in Alabama, Kansas, Michigan, Kentucky, South Carolina, Germany and Brazil.
“This energy-efficient facility will allow us to continue and expand our services to automotive, textile, metalworking, food and beverage industries,” said King Automation President Emerson Stobel.
Hiring for the 80 positions is expected to begin in fall. The company is vacating its current space in Greer at 133 Runion Rd. in Greer.
“Spartanburg County welcomes and appreciates this expansion by King Automation and the numerous well-paying jobs they will create,” said Spartanburg Economic Futures Group Board of Directors Chairman Russ Weber. “The purchase and renovation of this building also stands to breathe new life into a once vibrant manufacturing facility in the Roebuck community.”
The company operates a facility and office in South Carolina, as well as a sister facility in Brazil, according to its website.
