South Carolina Research Authority, a public, nonprofit corporation that works to fuel the state’s innovation economy, announced Jan. 17 it had over a $1.19 billion impact on the state’s economy in 2023.
The impact was determined by a study conducted by the University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business and is included in the organization’s annual report.
Other report highlights include:
- $680 million – follow-on funding to SCRA member and portfolio companies
- Over $4.8 million – SCRA and SC Launch grants
- Almost $2.66 billion – capital investment since 2006
- 5,825 South Carolina-based jobs – supported by funding
- Almost $26.37 million – academic research, startup and infrastructure funding
- 1.38 million square feet of lab, office and collaborative space owned or managed by SCRA
