Steve Brandt, president and publisher of the Greenville News since 1993, will retire effective Oct. 31, the newspaper announced Friday.
He will be replaced by Dave Neill, Carolinas regional president for Gannett and publisher of the Asheville Citizen-Times. Neill will take over as publisher the Greenville News Media Group on Sept. 1, the paper announced Friday afternoon. Brandt will continue as president through Oct. 31.
“This is a bittersweet moment for me,” said Brandt in the announcement. “I love this newspaper and my colleagues here, but I am looking forward to pursuing other interests. It is time to hand the reins to a new leader.”
Brandt’s career with the Greenville News-Piedmont Company dates back to 1978.
“Steve’s leadership of the newspaper and dedicated service to the community over the last 36 years are commendable,” said Neill in the News’ announcement. “One can assume his numerous contributions have helped make Greenville a better place to live and work.”
