Hong Kong-based manufacturer 3S International Corp. plans to invest $15 million and create 45 jobs in Laurens County by establishing its first U.S. operations. 3S will operate out of an existing 58,000-square-foot facility, but will construct an additional 4,000 square feet of office space.
Economic development in Laurens saw gains in December with investment announcements of $30 million by global packaging firm CCL Industries LLC and $4.5 million by Georgia-based industrial contractor Reinicke Athens Inc.
Founded in 2000, the company offers strategic sourcing services and manufactures products for the energy market. 3S employs more than 500 people through its operations in the Philippines, China and the U.S.
“We welcome this new company to our county to bring much-needed jobs and tax base,” said Laurens County Council Chairman Joe Wood in a news release. “It is good to see an industry locate in an existing building in the county.”
The Laurens County facility will open its doors on Feb. 20 and will be accepting applications through email.
“A company is but a company. It is the people that make the company, and it’s the leadership that focuses ideas applied to the success of the company,” said 3S International Corp. CEO John E. Kuykendall II. “That emphasis on people is one of the key reasons why we chose South Carolina as our first U.S. facility.”
