BMW Manufacturing management and representatives from the city of Woodruff, Spartanburg County and Evans Construction came together Oct. 5 for a ceremonial beam signing celebrating the first steel erected at the company’s new high-voltage battery assembly plant in Woodruff.

Encompassing 315 acres in Woodruff, the 1-million-square-foot facility is expected to add more than 300 jobs to the area.
“Today, we literally begin to build our legacy as we start the construction of Plant Woodruff,” said Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing. “This BMW plant will play an important role for the future of electric mobility at Plant Spartanburg and in the United States.”
Construction on the $700 million facility broke ground in June 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026. The project is part of the company’s $1.7 billion investment to produce at least six fully electric models in the U.S. by 2030.
Since 1992, the BMW Group has invested nearly $12.4 billion in its South Carolina operations.
