Here’s a recap of the Greenville Planning Commission’s April 20 meeting:
Approved: The McDaniel luxury townhomes on E. McBee Avenue
The commission approved a multi-family luxury townhome development at the corner of East McBee and McDaniel avenues that will include 20 owner-occupied units across five buildings.
The project, known as The McDaniel, is being developed by Kyle Keene of Keene Development Group. The luxury homes will range in price from $1.4 to $2.2 million.
According to the application, the buildings will be made primarily of limestone, lime-washed brick and stucco.
During the question and answer portion of the meeting, commissioner Diane Eldridge expressed concerns about traffic at the property’s proposed entrance on McDaniel Avenue and ultimately voted against the project for that reason.
As part of the commission’s approval for the project, the developers were encouraged to work with the city to explore options for expanding the sidewalk on the McBee Avenue frontage and discourage curbside parking in the area.
According to the application, the property runs from 704 to 722 E. McBee Ave. and contains five residential structures that will be demolished prior to construction of the new townhomes.
Approved: Annexation requests for Woodlawn Memorial Park, Monaghan mill
The commission unanimously approved annexation petitions for a number of properties, including the 88.6 acres of Woodlawn Memorial Park on Pine Knoll Drive and about 16.9 acres of the Lofts of Greenville in the old Monaghan Mill on Smythe Street.
The cemetery on Pine Knoll Drive will be rezoned C-2 commercial, while the mill property will be zoned PD planned development.
The annexation applications for both properties received first reading approval at Greenville City Council earlier in April. Following the planning commission approval, city council is expected to endorse the annexation with second and final reading at its next meeting.
