The Upward Star Center, a campus and sports complex in Spartanburg County, has been sold for $24 million.
Global Outreach Academy purchased the roughly 100-acre property in two separate transactions. It is located west of the city of Spartanburg along U.S. Highway 29.
Advisor Shannon Donahoo represented the buyer and its representative Ilya Soroka, CEO of outreach education for Global Outreach Charter Academy. A portion of the property is planned for future development, according to a release from SVN Blackstream, a Greenville-based commercial real estate firm.
“Shannon Donahoo’s strength in the commercial real estate arena is undeniable,” said Lars Gruenefeld, COO of SVN Blackstream. “Her specialized expertise in educational facilities and her insights into the development of charter schools in the Carolinas have been invaluable. We are truly proud of her exceptional contribution.”
According to the release, the sports complex will continue to operate but a charter school for children in kindergarten through 8th grade will be added. Global Outreach Charter Academy is expected to add another 500 students to its current enrollment of 300 students with the additional space.
The property currently includes three buildings and several sports fields. About a third of the property is wooded or otherwise unused.
