BMW bringing new dealership personnel training facility to the Upstate

Germany-based BMW Group will invest $12 million to open a new 32,640-square-foot training center in Spartanburg County by the end of 2018 that will train employees for its dealerships in the U.S.

German automaker BMW Group will invest $12 million to bring a new training facility to Spartanburg County.

According to site plans, the 32,640-square-foot BMW Southern Training Center will be on 13 acres of vacant wooded land at 1359 Woods Chapel Road.

The site is bordered by Victor Hill, Green, and Woods Chapel roads, and owned by the South Carolina Ports Authority, property records showed. It is about 1 mile from BMW Manufacturing Co.

Kenn Sparks, a spokesman for BMW of North America LLC, said the facility will be one of two such training centers the company plans to build in its Southern Region. The other site is near Atlanta.

Sparks said the centers are part of BMW Group University and will train technicians, service personnel, and client advisors for its dealerships in the U.S.

The Spartanburg center will be operational by the end of 2018, he said.
