Another recruitment event for positions at BMW’s Upstate plant is in the works.
Spartanburg County-based BMW Manufacturing Co. and its staffing partner MAU Inc. have announced they will host a job fair from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at Spartanburg Community College’s Tyger River Campus, 1875 E. Main St., Duncan.
MAU spokeswoman Lori Holley said the hiring will be for production associates, logistics trainees, automotive technicians, and forklift operators.
The positions offer pay starting at $16.50 to $17.50 per hour and benefits that include paid vacation; 401(k); and health, vision, and dental insurance, according to BMW and MAU.
Holley said the basic requirement for the positions are a high school diploma or GED and one year of continuous stable work history.
Job seekers are welcome to bring their resume to the event, but it is not required.
On-site interviews will be conducted at the event. Walk-in interviews will be offered at MAU’s Greenville branch from 9-1:30 a.m. and 1-4:40 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Those interested can also apply online.
Applicants must submit to drug screening and a background check. The drug screening will take place at a later date, Holley said.
BMW Manufacturing Co. spokesman Steve Wilson said the plant is seeking to fill 1,000 positions by the end of 2021.
The new jobs are part of the German automaker’s $600 million investment in the plant announced in June 2017 to support manufacturing infrastructure for future generations of X models.
BMW Manufacturing Co. is the global hub of expertise for the assembly of BMW’s X3, X4, X5, and X6 models. The new X7 will debut later this year.
For a fourth consecutive year, the plant was the nation’s top automotive exporter in 2017.
BMW Manufacturing Co. produced 371,284 vehicles during 2017 and exported 272,346, or more than 73 percent, of those vehicles to more than 140 markets worldwide.
About 87 percent of those cars were shipped through the Port of Charleston. The rest were exported through five other ports in Savannah, Ga.; Brunswick, Ga.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Miami; and Everglades, Fla.
The plant has the capacity to produce up to 450,000 vehicles per year and employs 10,000 people.
About 1,400 completed vehicles roll off the plant’s production lines each day.
