Blind Horse Saloon, a Greenville nightclub popular for country music and line dancing, announced it would close after 29 years.
The owners cited the rising cost of liquor liability insurance as the reason in a social media post.
“Due to the South Carolina liquor insurance requirements we are regrettably having to close our doors, effective immediately,” the May 14 post read.
The cost of alcohol liability insurance has been on the rise since South Carolina passed legislation in 2017 that required businesses serving alcohol after 5 p.m. to carry a minimum $1 million in liquor liability insurance. Local venues have found it harder to break even due to skyrocketing insurance premiums.
In late April, the business announced country music artist Tyler Hubbard would make a stop at the saloon in September on his upcoming world tour.
