New Realm Brewing has moved one step closer to taking over the Old Cigar Warehouse location in the West End of downtown Greenville.
The Atlanta-based brewery, which announced in October their plan to occupy the former event space at 912 S. Main St., received a special exemption from Greenville’s Board of Zoning Appeals during its Jan. 13 meeting to create both an indoor and outdoor entertainment venue.
The Old Cigar Warehouse was previously occupied by High Spirits Hospitality, an event venue popular for weddings and corporate events, which has announced plans to relocate in the new Judson Mill development.
The decision from the board came after months of pushback from residents about concerns over noise, crowds and disruptions to the downtown atmosphere.
A New Realm of stipulations
New Realm agreed to a few new stipulations as part of the special exemption:
- Moving a planned outdoor stage further away from a nearby residential building and from paved surfaces might amplify the sound.
- Adding noise-canceling structures around the outdoor beer garden.
- The inclusion of a dedicated and reserved valet parking lot.
During the 90-minute meeting, numerous residents and local stakeholders spoke in support of the new plans, while no residents spoke in opposition.
