Hai Yao, a professor at Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina, was named as the South Carolina Research Authority’s Applied Researcher of the Year at the organization’s annual summit April 9 in Columbia.
Yao serves as associate department chair for the Clemson-MUSC Bioengineering Program and founded Apex Orthopaedic Technologies, a medical-device startup that addresses a need for less-invasive solutions to treat spinal deformities in young children.
SCRA also honored Case Status of Charleston as Company of the Year and Jim Jacob of StoryButton as Founder of the Year.
