There’s a new corporate landmark along I-85 entering Greenville as the major lighting producer Current unveiled new signage announcing the transition of its headquarters from Cleveland, Ohio, to South Carolina at a ceremony Nov. 30.
Current, formerly GE Current, acquired Greenville-based lighting company Hubbell in February for $350 million and began the process of moving its global headquarters to Hubbell’s Millenium Boulevard facility.
Current President and CEO Manish Bhandari was joined by Mayor Knox White, other local leaders and company employees in celebrating the company’s move to Greenville.
Bhandari said during his remarks that Greenville was the best fit for the headquarters because the community afforded the best prospects for recruiting and retaining the talent necessary for the company’s future.
“Our intent is to be here and grow with the community,” he said.
Bhandari said the $1 billion company, which formed from the merger of GE Current and Hubbell, produces 30-40% of the commercial lighting products in North America.
