Here’s a recap of everything that was approved or disapproved at this month’s Design Review Board meeting.
Approved: New Realm Brewery at the Old Cigar Warehouse
The DRB approved plans to renovate the Old Cigar Warehouse to include a new brewery. This includes an outdoor dining pavilion and a covered event area for acoustic concerts.
The renovations will happen mainly indoors, with the intention of maintaining the original character of the building, and minor renovations are expected on the exterior. The approval came with conditions for the architect in charge of the project for minor adjustments like the location of a fireplace and types of materials that will be used.

Approved: Exterior renovations on North Main Street
The board also approved renovations at 200 North Main Street, which was once a JCPenney in the 1940s but has been bought by Kiyatec, a biotech company. The renovations focus on breaking down the scale of long elevations on Main Street and Washington Street.
The architects want to change the appearance of one large building to look like two separate buildings, adding new storefront entries, painting to create visual breaks between three-story and two-story buildings, and replacing some windows.

Deferred: Renovations adjacent to Japanese Dogwood Lane
A request to renovate on South Main Street was deferred until the next meeting due to the need for more information. The board agreed to hand the request over to staff for administrative review.
