Alabama-based fried chicken chain Guthrie’s Golden Fried Chicken Fingers will open a location at 1308 W. Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greer May 28.
It will be the first location for the company in the Upstate and the second in South Carolina. It opened in Lexington in April.
A grand-opening event for the Greer store will begin at 2 p.m. with a ribbon cutting, followed by a competitive eating contest between Riverside High School and Greer High School.
Founder Hal Guthrie opened the first restaurant in 1965 in Haleyville, Alabama, but didn’t start serving chicken fingers until 1978. In 1982, the restaurant expanded to Auburn University and made the decision to sell only chicken fingers.
Today, the company operates more than 65 locations.
Guthrie’s in Greer will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
