Huntington National Bank is continuing its efforts to move into the Upstate South Carolina market.
The Ohio-based bank announced plans to establish 55 retail branches and add more than 350 new jobs across the Carolinas in September 2024. Wesley Lehrer, Huntington’s Upstate market president, said the bank decided to move into the Southeast due to the region’s continued growth.
“We want to be the leading people-first, customer-centered bank in the country,” Lehrer said.
The bank will open its first full-service branch in Greenville County in early December. The new branch will be located at 606 S. Main St. in downtown Greenville. Offices for Huntington National Bank colleagues will also open at 600 S. Main St. at the end of September.
Gary Daniels, Huntington’s Greater Greenville community president, said the bank strives to be accessible by establishing branch locations where customers can come in and have meaningful conversations with a banker.
“Huntington has always been and remains a Main Street bank,” Daniels said.
The bank’s investment in the Carolinas builds on Huntington’s commercial expansion into the region in 2023. Daniels said Huntington’s momentum from its commercial-focused expansion led to the rollout of its retail- and full-banking strategy to South and North Carolina.
The bank successfully opened a full-service branch in Spartanburg in early May. Huntington National Bank plans to establish seven to 10 branches in the Upstate.
“We’re working on locking up all those sites, and we’re close to having those all identified,” Daniels said.
Huntington National Bank operates 971 branches in 13 states, providing banking, wealth management and risk management services. For more information, visit huntington.com.
