South Carolina’s labor market saw an increase across the board from November to December 2022.
According to Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, quits, layoffs, hires and job openings all saw an uptick in that time period:
- Job openings increased by 7.7% (5,000 openings)
- Hires increased by 5% (4,000 hires)
- Employees quitting a job increased by 3.4% (6,000 people quitting jobs)
- Layoffs increased by 1.2% (5,000 people losing a job)
“Looking back at 2022, we saw a lot of mobility within the workforce, which is indicative of a strong labor market and economy overall,” said Bryan Grady, labor market information director at the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. “One company’s quit was another company’s hire and data throughout the year demonstrates that workers had a wide array of available job opportunities with hundreds of thousands of job openings available every month.”
