Downtown Greenville has been needing a bodega south of Stone Avenue, right?
Spinx Market & Eatery is set to open Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. It held a sneak peek Oct. 21 at the newly-renovated space at 659 Main St. The space was formerly home to The Cook’s Station, now located on Buncombe Street near the Hampton-Pinckney neighborhood.
The West End’s newest addition has a retro, 1950s-era design exterior that pays homage to the building’s origins as a gas station. The historic property was built in 1924. Inside is a hub for quick bites that will be available until late-night.
It’s a new concept for Greenville-based Spinx, which specializes in gas stations, convenience stores and car washes. Visitors will notice that the displayed logo differs from the standard Spinx design.
“It is the Spinx market but we wanted to show a little differentiation from our brand,” said Spinx founder Stewart Spinks.
The store is more of a specialty market. Methodical Coffee brews in its drip pots and the house roast is available for purchase. Local honey lines shelves as you enter from Main Street and knick-knacks are around the corner. It offers dine-in tables in both the front and back porches, as well as Spinx merchandise like shirts and hats.
Like all newer Spinx stores, it has grab-and-go and made-to-order elements. Expect options like chicken tenders, chicken salad and a bakery counter.
“This is going to be a part of our brand – the quality offered, the quality of people, the quality of food,” Spinks said. “We have to take care of the neighborhood with the essentials, so we’ve got more than the essentials.”
The market also carries beer and wine, with some options from local breweries. The wine selection is similar to what you would find in a grocery.
Spinx Market & Eatery is open all week from 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. The kitchen operates from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. serving breakfast from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lunch and dinner options are served from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with grab-and-go offerings available until close.
