Four months after they closed downtown Greenville’s Crème Shack, former owners Fred and Karen Williams are on a new adventure with a healthy focus and an eye on value.
They were inspired by a stay on the West Coast with family and decided to pivot from ice cream to their new concept, Fresh Salads Etc. It will be in the same location as the old Crème Shack at 120 N. Main St. beginning Jan. 16.
Crème Shack will also make a comeback under new owners across the street.
The Williams family owned Crème Shack for nearly seven years and Fred Williams has been in the restaurant business for quite some time. With their new effort, the couple sought a happy medium between the shift toward healthy concepts and a cost-conscious gap they felt needed to be addressed in Greenville.
“One of the things when you talk to the people that work downtown is that, you know, it’s price fatigue,” Fred Williams said. “And now they can’t afford to go out and eat more than one time a week because it’s so expensive downtown.”
He said the eatery will offer an affordable lunch option.
“We’re only going to charge $1.79 for all our Coke products because it’s not only what you charge for the product,” Fred Williams said. “When you add $3.50 or three and a quarter to a $10 sandwich and you start adding all that stuff up, it’s too much money. So we decided that, across the board, we’re going to go more with value. Quality with value is our deal.”
The Williamses said lunch fare will mostly consist of salads, wraps, chicken salad and soups. The salads will offer a variety of toppings. Two chicken salads will be offered, with savory and sweet options.
The restaurant will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
As for Crème Shack, it will move across the street to the former Blaze Pizza location at 109 N. Main St. The Williamses sold it to another couple who will maintain the rolled ice cream shop’s name, recipe and concept.
