Fluor Field and the Greenville Drive have generated an estimated $288 million in cumulative economic impact for the area over the past decade, according to an impact study released May 12.
The study was commissioned by VisitGreenvilleSC and compiled by Tom Regan, associate professor with the department of sport and entertainment management at the University of South Carolina’s College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management.
Fluor Field sees an estimated 500,000 visitors annually for both Drive games and other events, including ACC and SoCon baseball championship games, Artisphere, euphoria, and many other local events.
The study helps quantify both the stadium and team impacts on driving economic growth and development in Greenville’s West End, an area which has seen 433 new business permits and $277 million in new business construction within a half mile of Fluor Field over the past decade.
For 2024, the study assessed Fluor Field contributed:
- $20.4 million in direct spending
- $34 million in total economic impact
- $15.7 million in wages and income
- 265 jobs supported
- $1.36 million in taxes generated
The stadium was a private project undertaken by Drive owners and completed in 2006 and has been a major catalyst driving real estate redevelopment in the West End, according to the study.
“As we look at Greenville today, we are proud of the role that Fluor Field has played serving as the catalyst for the renaissance of the West End over the past 20 years,” said Craig Brown, Greenville Drive owner and chairman. “It has been nothing short of amazing to witness people of all ages and backgrounds gather at Fluor Field and the emerging West End Entertainment District to enjoy all that Greenville has to offer.”
