René Sawyer of Greenville Technical College has been selected for the 2019 Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award presented by the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience & Students in Transition at the University of South Carolina and Cengage Learning.
Ten individuals were chosen for their outstanding work on behalf of first-year students and for the impact their efforts have on the students and the culture of their institutions.
According to a press release, Sawyer has earned a reputation for leading initiatives that put students first. Recent initiatives include the scale-up of a success course for online learners and coordination of all college advising efforts with the success of students in mind.
All ten award recipients were recognized on Feb. 16 at the Annual Conference on The First-Year Experience in Las Vegas, NV.
