A new collaborative initiative to expand the certified nursing assistant talent pipeline in Spartanburg County will soon begin addressing a critical workforce need.
The initiative is a partnership between Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, OneSpartanburg Inc. and the Spartanburg Academic Movement and will use a cohort-based system to expand CNA training and career readiness.
The program was announced during a signing ceremony March 24 with the first 32-member cohort expected to begin training in June. That initial cohort will contain a mix of current Spartanburg Regional employees and interested Spartanburg County residents.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to strengthening Spartanburg’s workforce development while supporting our community’s health care needs,” said Karla Lamb, chief nursing officer and chief operating officer for Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care, in a statement announcing the launch. “CNAs play a critical role in caring for our patients, and by investing in their training, we strengthen the care experience for every person we serve.”
The initiative features an earn-while-you-learn model where participants attend school while working directly with patients. Participants will also receive tuition assistance and benefit from guaranteed work placement with the goal of supporting rewarding careers within the Spartanburg Regional system.
