Milliken & Co. announced Debra Clements has been named to the board of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

Clements is the chief administrative officer, senior general counsel and corporate secretary for the Spartanburg-based innovation company.

She will join a group of executives on the board of NAM, which works to advance a manufacturing policy agenda that “promotes growth and prosperity for all Americans.”

“I’m honored to represent Milliken and the Spartanburg community in this very influential national organization,” Clements said in a statement. “Milliken has a meaningful insight to share, which I hope can benefit every level of our manufacturing colleagues. I look forward to using this position to extend Milliken’s initiatives that advance how the manufacturing industry can help improve the world, and respect our environmental responsibilities while doing so.”

NAM, founded in 1895, said it is the largest manufacturing association in the U.S., with more than 14,000 members, including some of the world’s most iconic brands.

About 90 percent of NAM’s membership is comprised of small- and medium-sized businesses. Its members are located in all 50 U.S. states.

Clements earned her graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Florida.

She worked as a software engineer before returning to the university to earn her law degree.

Clements practiced corporate law for Harris Corp. in Florida before she was offered an opportunity in 2000 to do commercial litigation for the late textile magnate and philanthropist Roger Milliken.
