Vickie Wyatt, co-founder and president of Cowpens-based J.I.T. Manufacturing, has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s South Carolina State Small Business Person of the Year for 2017.
Wyatt and her husband, Reggie Wyatt, started their metal fabrication business from the front porch of their home in 1992.
The company has since grown to 40 employees in a 30,000-square-foot facility at 428 Oglesby Lane in Cherokee County.
In 2011, J.I.T. Manufacturing was selected as one of three companies to participate in Boeing’s mentoring program.
The company has a range of customers and supplies products for a variety of commercial and military applications.
Wyatt will be honored during an event in Washington D.C. on April 30 and May 1.
“Being selected as the small business person of the year to me was recognition for our companies performance and reputation,” Wyatt said. “It’s the business end and the results the team delivers.”
JoAnne LaBounty, president of Spartanburg Meat Processing Co., was named the winner for South Carolina in 2016.
