Packaging company opens second plant in Greenville County

A packaging company focused on the automotive industry has opened a second plant in Greenville County.

Response Packaging put its headquarters and a factory along U.S. 25 in southern Greenville County in 2014 and opened a second plant at the nearby South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center in November, said Alex McLean, the company’s chief financial officer.

He said the company employs about 175 people at both facilities now and plans to hire another 65 by the end of 2017 as a result of new business from the automotive industry.

The company has already spent some of the $5 million it has designated for launching the new plant, McLean said.

Response Packaging makes reusable packaging used to take parts to and from factories.

The auto industry accounts for about 80 percent of its business, and customers include auto suppliers and most of the major automakers with plants in North America, McLean said.

Response Packaging also manufactures in Mexico and has a sales, design and prototyping office in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
