Hospitality entrepreneur Davis Sezna knows golf and has played his whole life. He respects the tradition of the game while recognizing that there can be a degree of intimidation in maintaining respect for its ancient roots.
With this in mind, Sezna founded 3’s Greenville – Golf and Grubhouse in 2019 to create an alternative approach to the game that’s fun for all ages.
The 12-hole, par-three golf course near Greenville Downtown Airport along Interstate 385 offers a casual feel to the game.
“In the five years that I’ve had 3’s, I haven’t seen one temper tantrum,” Sezna said. “I played golf for Georgia, and I know what it’s like to be intense. I know what it’s like to lose my temper. I know what it’s like to be competitive. But in 3’s, we sort of relax and enjoy. And it’s just so much fun.”
On Jan. 10, the golf course held a grand opening to relaunch The Grubhouse, which serves as a base that complements the approachable course. The space is retro and cozy, with garage doors that open up to fire pits and Adirondack chairs overlooking the course. There’s both an indoor and outdoor bar, as well as a covered patio.
In 2022, 8AM Golf, a collection of brands with the mission of supporting and celebrating golfers and the golf industry, invested in 3’s. The group notably includes entertainer Justin Timberlake.
With its proximity to the airport, it’s not uncommon to see planes flying overhead as players putt on the greens or enjoy the ultimate golf accompaniment – a frozen transfusion.
The bar-restaurant offers signature drinks and fare Sezna calls “exceptionally casual.”
The Grubhouse menu
The menu is divided into “munchies” and “grub” with a grab-and-go style menu featuring cheese steaks, burgers, and potatchos. With speakers surrounding the building, it’s an ideal place for a party or hangout, indoors or out.
“Golf is allowed to feel good. Golf is allowed to taste good,” Sezna said. “Golf is allowed to be fun.”
The aforementioned transfusion features a ginger-infused liqueur that offers a sophisticated reimagining of the definitive cocktail. The restaurant continues in that vain with classic cocktails like Manhattans and signature cocktails.
“I would say that the most important thing in the hospitality business is the ice machine. And I always say we have the largest ice machine in golf,” Sezna said.
Mayor Knox White appeared at the grand opening, along with airport commission members who were present during the ribbon-cutting.
3’s Greenville – Golf and Grubhouse is located at 61 Villa Road off I-385 and is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. everyday.
