A long-planned Publix is officially under construction in Powdersville.
The middle portion of Powdersville Plaza was recently demolished and is now being rebuilt into the new grocery store. The shopping center is owned by Aston, which has several properties in the greater Greenville area, including North Hills, McBee Station and The Commons.
The new Publix will be 48,000 square feet. It will be the Florida-based supermarket chain’s 17th store in the Upstate, and the third in Anderson County.
Located near the intersection of state highways 81 and 153, the shopping center was expanded last year to accommodate existing tenant Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology and create more room for the new grocery store. Other tenants – which include restaurants, a primary care center and a UPS store – were unaffected by the demolition.
“We are long-term owners,” said Aston President and CEO George S. Dewey IV. “We reinvest in established centers with purpose, and this project reflects our commitment to strengthening places that meet everyday needs.”
Powdersville, which is unincorporated, is a popular retail destination for a fast-growing portion of northeast Anderson County. The Pickens and Greenville county lines and Interstate 85 are also nearby, making the area a major crossroads for commuters living west of Greenville.
All current Powdersville Plaza tenants are open during construction, which is expected to be complete in 2027. The work will also include parking lot improvements and landscaping, according to Aston Managing Director Barnes Connell.
