A 60,000-square-foot CubeSmart self-storage facility is planned for the former Palmetto Home and Garden building at 2422 Laurens Road in Greenville.
The new storage facility will reuse the existing building with improvements made to the exterior with new paint, awnings, lighting, plantings and signage. The furniture and interior décor store closed in December.
The storage facility will be developed and owned by 2422 Laurens LLC and feature 460 climate-controlled units and secure boat, RV and vehicle storage. A June 2016 opening is planned, said a source involved in the project.
CubeSmart is ranked as the fourth-largest owner and operator of self-storage facilities in the United States, according to the Self-Storage Almanac. In the U.S. the self-storage industry consists of approximately 51,000 facilities with 2.6 billion rentable square feet, out of which the top 10 operators collectively own approximately 16 percent of the aggregate rentable square footage market share, according to CubeSmart’s website.
