Here’s a recap of the June 8 meeting of the Greenville Planning Commission:
Approved: Radio Room’s new location operations
The Radio Room concert venue currently located on Poinsett Highway, has announced plans to relocate to a new 8,400-square-foot space on Liberty Lane just off Laurens Road.
Those plans are now one step closer to reality after the Planning Commission gave approval for a special exemption permit to allow the venue to serve alcohol past midnight.
Co-owner Wes Gilliam, who described the proposed new location as “hopefully the final location for The Radio Room,” said the venue only plans to serve alcohol past midnight a couple days a week.
“We’ve just been fortunate enough to outgrow this space,” Gilliam told the Greenville Journal, referring to the venue’s current location, “and to continually keep getting those acts who are selling us out, and sometimes way in advance. Coupled with the need for better parking and more stage real estate than we have currently, we just knew it was time.”
The move has been in the works for a while, Gilliam said.
“It’s been in the last year or so that we knew we needed to expand, and we knew it couldn’t be a lateral move,” Cannada says. “We probably would have explored this option around 2021, but the COVID thing was huge reset for everyone.”

Approved: Bar permits for Fieldhouse
Fieldhouse bar and restaurant, located at 36 S. Main St., will be back in full swing with its bar operations after the Planning Commission gave approval for new permits.
The restaurant and wine bar, known locally for its wide selection of specialty jerky, has essentially been closed in recent weeks due to confusion over permitting, according to owner William Satterfield.
“We’ve still been selling jerky, but that’s about it,” he told the commission.
The confusion arose from discrepancies between permits for Fieldhouse’s old location further down on McBee Avenue and those for the downtown location at the corner of McBee and Main Street, according to Satterfield.
With the new permits, Fieldhouse will reopen service at its small, cozy wine bar located at the corner of McBee Avenue and Main Street.
