A historic mill on Greenville’s West Side may soon be the site of 116 units of affordable housing, as well as 50 beds for survivors of domestic abuse overseen by Safe Harbor, a local advocacy and counseling group.
Greenville County planning commissioners approved plans on Aug. 25 for the former Gordon Street Mill, which is situated between Gordon Street, North Georgia Avenue, 20th Street and 8th Avenue.
County Government Affairs Coordinator Bob Mihalic said the proposal for the project will be reviewed by the County’s Planning and Development Committee on Sept. 20.
Prospective tenants of the affordable units have to earn less than 60% of the area median income, while the beds for domestic abuse survivors will be designed as temporary dwelling for no more than a month.
M Peters Group is the builder on the project.
