For Greenville native Kyle Keene, the vision behind his project to bring luxury townhomes to downtown was inspired by both old-world neoclassical design aesthetics and the iconic gravitas of New York’s Upper East Side and its luxury homes fronting Central Park.
Designed by Greenville-based MHK Architecture, the 20 luxury townhomes comprising The McDaniel at the intersection of East McBee and McDaniel avenues will be constructed primarily of limestone in a nod to the distinctive look of that world-renowned portion of Manhattan, Keene says.

Phase one of The McDaniel will see 20 townhomes spread across five buildings on two acres fronting East McBee Avenue with the rearmost building overlooking Cleveland Park. The homes will be priced from $1.4 to $2.2 million and offer five floor-plan options.
Matthew Jones, the project’s principal architect with MHK Architecture, says in addition to the New York-inspired use of limestone, the project embraces European ideas about outdoor connectivity with features such as rooftop outdoor terraces and Juliet balconies.
Jones says with Greenville’s drive to develop a more walkable urban environment, it was important to pay attention to the project’s outdoor elements.

“It’s kind of natural to look at those European counterparts and draw inspiration there,” he says.
MHK principal Mitch Lehde says such design considerations will give the project a timeless quality that will age well and not be out of place.
“Fifty to 100 years from now, this project is not going to look out of date,” Lehde says. “That limestone is just going to age and patina and look more beautiful over time.”
Greenville’s Wilson Associates will handle exclusive sales for the project, and co-founder Nick Carlson says he expects local and regional interest will be strong.
Construction on The McDaniel is expected to begin in early summer and last about 20 months.
