“I love working with writers, photographers and designers to create something informative and entertaining that can connect with our readers’ brains as well as their hearts. There are so many stories to tell in the Upstate; I wish we had time and space enough to tell all of them…I still get a few chills when I see a completed story in layout for the first time, especially knowing how much hard work by so many extremely talented people went into every aspect of it.”
Jerry’s known at the Journals for punchy headlines, attention to detail, an ability to remain levelheaded in a sometimes-chaotic newsroom environment, and his mastery of pop-culture trivia, though he says that knack doesn’t come into play professionally nearly as often as he’d like.
He’s worked as a writer and editor at various corporations and media outlets in both Carolinas for over 20 years. “Mostly,” he says, “I did whatever seemed like it needed doing at the time.”
He enjoys doing odd jobs around his 1895-built Downtown Greenville home, where he married his wife (who regularly beats him in Scrabble) last year on the front porch. He also enjoys naps, walking the Swamp Rabbit Trail, experiencing a new restaurant or art gallery, and spoiling his two Staffordshire bull terriers.
