TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable division of TD Bank donated $17,500 to Greenville Technical College to support Financial Literacy Week, which runs from Oct. 21-25.

The donation will benefit Greenville Tech’s Financial Education Center and students by improving their financial knowledge and health through events and activities. Experts from TD Bank will be on-hand to educate students on making healthy financial decisions. Seminar topics will include budgeting, spending, credit scores, debt management and online security.

Additionally, the donation will support BudgetCon, simulations that will be held twice a year at Greenville Tech. BudgetCon is a preparatory exercise designed for students to interact with their financial lives post-graduation. In the simulation, students receive the salary that corresponds to their desired career. They then navigate various living expenses including housing, student loan payments, insurance, food, transportation and miscellaneous expenditures. At the end of the exercise, students debrief with financial coaches who explain how to maximize income and lower expenses.

TD Charitable Foundation’s gift will also help Greenville Tech obtain supplies for community days of service. Martin Luther King Day and 9/11 Remembrance Day are examples of community days when volunteers complete projects that benefit local agencies.
