The Gibbs Cancer Center & Research Institute, an affiliate of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, is expanding at the Pelham Medical Center campus.
Tindall Corporation will partner with Vannoy Construction in the expansion project. The two companies will work together to design and build the 198,000-square-foot facility addition and new pedestrian bridge, which is expected to be completed in late 2019.
“Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and Tindall are two Upstate organizations committed to innovation,” Tindall S.C. division sales engineer Randy Royal said in the release. “This expanded medical facility will provide additional capacity and much-needed care for the growing Spartanburg community. We look forward to continuing our work with local partners.”
Tindall is responsible for providing precast architectural panels and the pedestrian bridge which will connect the new building to the existing structure. In addition to precast panels, glass, steel, and brick will be used to create a nice facade. While precast concrete was not part of the original design, Tindall reworked the design and chose the material to reduce construction costs and accommodate scheduling.
“We reached out to Tindall for a small, customized solution for the structural support of the pedestrian bridge,” Vannoy project manager Joe Hoglund said in the release. “They took that a step further by providing a design that integrated precast into the structure, saving the project time and money.”
