Verizon Wireless needs 466 workers

Verizon Wireless aims to dramatically increase the headcount at its “solutions center” in the Brookfield office park off of Interstate 385 in Mauldin.

The company already employs about 1,100 people at the site, most of them handling customer service and tech support calls.

Now it plans to add another 185 customer service workers by August and 281 “telesales” workers by the end of next year, according to Abdullah El-Amin, a Verizon Wireless recruiter.

The base salary for the customer service jobs is $35,000 a year, he said. To be eligible, one must be at least 18 years old, have a two-year degree or one year of relevant experience and be willing to work nights and weekends.

For the telesales jobs, the base salary is $23,000 a year with a “commission target” of an additional $18,400 a year, El-Amin said. One year of sales experience in a commission environment is required.

The benefits package includes up to $8,000 a year in tuition assistance.

Verizon Wireless is relocating the telesales jobs from Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Rochester, N.Y., according to El-Amin.
