When Lewis Barbecue opens its doors inside the old Tommy’s Ham House spot later this year, those familiar with the location will be treated to a big makeover.
With an original location in Charleston, Lewis Barbecue specializes in Austin-style ‘cue — brisket fans take note — served in a counter-style service, casual atmosphere.

Over the last year, pit master John Lewis and his team, along with LMG Architects and B. Berry Interiors, have been hard at work renovating the roughly 3,000-square-feet space to accommodate an entirely new setup.
Lewis said the sheer size of the new space, far larger than the original Charleston spot, will allow the Greenville location to offer a more expansive menu with unique options only available locally.

“Here we’ve got a kitchen that’s 3,000 square feet, and we’re going to have a few more smokers than we do in Charleston,” he told the Greenville Journal last year. “That was one big draw, but just as important for us was the spot’s tradition as a meeting place, a spot for the community to come together. I hope and will do all I can to continue that tradition.”
Here’s a first glimpse at what the new spot will look like when doors open sometime in late spring or summer.
