With the demand for office and retail space outstripping supply in Spartanburg’s high-growth downtown area, owners of the Courtleigh Building at 269 S. Church Street hope recent renovations will help meet the need.
Michelle Sunquest says her family invested $750,000 to renovate the building’s exterior and interior, making it ideal for mixed-use retail and office.
Built in the 1950s, the Courtleigh Building sits on the corner of South Church and East Lee streets across from the main Post Office. The four-story, 35,000-square-foot building features office suites ranging in size from 120 to 5,000 square feet.
Sunquest says the building’s first floor could easily accommodate a restaurant, gallery or event venue.
She adds that while renovations were aimed at providing an attractive space to work, the family wanted to maintain the building’s historic character.
“Old is new again,” she says.
