Rick Erwin’s Nantucket Seafood is moving out of its spot at 40 W. Broad St. downtown and into an as-yet unannounced location.
The seafood restaurant has been a presence on West Broad Street for more than 12 years, but Rick Erwin Dining Group, which owns the restaurant, announced plans to “renew and refresh” the concept in a new location.
Rick Erwin Dining Group Owner and CFO Michael Ivey said instead of renovating the existing space, the plan was to find a new downtown location that allows for an updated look and feel.
“We recognize that a lot has changed in the 15 years since that restaurant was originally designed,” Ivey said, “and we’re ready to see it evolve. When we reopen you’ll notice big changes.”
The move comes after Windsor Aughtry and the Indigo Road Hospitality Group of Charleston proposed the addition of a new outdoor dining and bar area for the Village Green courtyard. That courtyard space, located at West Broad Street and Main Street, was previously used for outdoor seating for Nantucket Seafood and also hosts the Ice on Main outdoor skating rink during Christmas time each year. While Ice on Main will remain, the portion of the courtyard that will become a renovated outdoor area will now serve new restaurant concepts from Indigo Road.

The 7,600-square-foot space Nantucket Seafood is leaving will be occupied by two new restaurants: Indaco, a rustic Italian concept; and O-ku, a sushi concept.
There have been no formal announcements for when Nantucket Seafood will reopen or when the new restaurants will take over the space.
