The historic Ivey Square Building, 2oo North Main St., in downtown Greenville is up for sale, and the sellers say they’ve already received interest from potential buyers in California, Ohio and Charleston, South Carolina.
The building at the corner of North Main and East North was once home to Ivey’s Department Store, which opened its doors in the late 1940s. In the 1990s, the building was remodeled for shops on the street level and condominiums in the upper level.
Today the building is home to Southern Tide and Bertolo’s Pizza at the ground level, with office condominiums on the second level.
Situated next to NOMA Square and the Hyatt Regency, Ivey Square is made up of 17 individually-owned units whose owners will have approve any plans, according to Nathan Foy, the point of contact.
“But we think that’s doable if the proposal is right,” Foy said.
Foy said he and the owners have already received several inquires.
Mayor Knox White said he hopes the plans for the space will honor the history of the building.
“Ivey Square is a significant building in the heart of downtown,” White said. “It deserves a thoughtful and creative redevelopment.”
Proposals will be received through April 15, with a decision on the sale planned by the end of May. There is no listing price. Proposals should include designs, pricing, plans for the existing structure and impact on neighbors and downtown.
