Argo AI launched its newest facility Aug. 23 in Greenville with a number of state and local officials gathering at Greenville Country Club.
The company’s new facility at the SC Technology and Aviation Center (SCTAC) will employ about 40 people with a $2.6 million investment. Company Co-Founder and President Peter Rander said he had searched for five years for a new facility until he decided on Greenville.

The company will establish a closed-course track to develop autonomous vehicles at highway speeds. It will also serve as a training facility for its operators. It joins many automotive, manufacturing and aerospace companies located at SCTAC, owing to the automotive testing facilities it already offers.
“The car from the Jetsons is finally here,” South Carolina Department of Commerce deputy secretary Ashley Teasdel. Rander said there would be “a piece of Greenville” in every vehicle.
Argo AI, headquartered in Pittsburgh — with facilities across the U.S. and the world — has partnered with Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen, Walmart and Lyft. The company looks to bring autonomous ride-sharing and delivery services to cities around the world.
