Milliken & Co. is under new leadership. The Spartanburg-based innovation company announced Monday that J. Harold Chandler has been elected chairman, president and CEO following the resignation of Joe Salley.
Salley has served as the company’s top executive since he replaced Ashley Allen in 2008.
Details about Salley’s resignation were not immediately available.
The company said Chandler has served as a member of its board for 14 years, the past five years as chairman.

“We sincerely thank Joe Salley for his service to Milliken, which covers a span of 20 years, the past eight as its president and CEO,” Chandler said, in a statement. “I am honored to take on the additional roles of president and CEO. I look forward to working with a uniquely qualified group of executives, associates and board members.”
Chandler said his first step will be to “ensure an effective transition” and “maintain the positive momentum” of the company.
“Together, we will continue to innovate, contribute to Spartanburg and our other communities, and be a leader in our industry,” Chandler said.

According to the company, Chandler grew up in a textile family in South Carolina. He graduated from Wofford College, where he has served as a trustee for 24 years, the past five as chairman of the board of trustees. Chandler earned his Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of South Carolina and completed his post-graduate studies at Harvard Business School.
During the past three decades, Chandler has served in various top management roles at eight public and family-owned companies.
