Coastal Crust opened its second location in Greenville County on Main Street in Travelers Rest on Jan. 19.
The pizza trattoria is in the former Resident Diner space next to Community Tap. Talks of a new location for the Charleston-based company initially began in June of last year.
Its other Greenville location is in the Village of West Greenville.
The Travelers Rest location offers indoor-outdoor seating. The wood-fired pizza oven is visible from the patio. In contrast to the West Greenville location, the oven has two sides.
The patio and the space with the pizza oven are heated.
Inside, the space is adorned with small plants on shelves that sit above emerald-colored banquettes on either side of the restaurant. Guests can find light-colored wooden tables with a total of about 20 seats, not including those found along the banquettes, for an intimate and comfy eatery.
The menu for each location varies but always highlights Italian fare.
One of the menu items that differs from all other locations is the arancini on the antipasti list. Arancini is a breaded and deep-fried rice ball with Sicilian roots.
Coastal Crust’s arancini is made with risotto in a cacio e pepe style with calabrian chilis. Topped with lemon gremolata and shaved grana padano cheese, the dish has an approachable spice and a warm and gooey texture that brings coziness on a cold day. The crunch of the breading along with the soft center of risotto also gives it a well-rounded texture.
Another item unique to the franchise’s second upstate location is the affogato. Affogato incorporates espresso by pouring it over gelato – a sort-of coffee float.
The new location also offers several salads and pasta, as well as a tasty non-alcoholic Peroni for those steeped in dry January. Charleston-based beers and Italian wines dominate the drinks menu.
Coastal Crust is located at 327 S. Main St. in Travelers Rest.
