Kathy and Gian Pietro Ferro of Ristorante Bergamo will soon open Bergamo West in the Village of West Greenville.
The Italian market and deli is expected to open by early 2024. Renovations are still underway at 1278 Pendleton St.
Kathy Ferro will primarily run the store and her husband will remain at the restaurant.
“The incredibly warm and fabulous reception that we’ve gotten here in Greenville, it made us feel like [this] was something we could do, and do successfully,” Ferro said.
The deli will stock authentic Italian products, including wines, meats, cheeses, oils and fresh vegetables. It will also have prepared pasta and sandwiches.
“We’ll probably have a couple of different kinds of prosciutto, salamis, mortadella,” Ferro said. “All the kind of standard Italian meats.”
Ferro said the cheese selection will include mozzarella fior di latte, robiola, stracciatella, buffalo, taleggio, and, of course, parmesan.
“There’s a million Italian cheeses,” Ferro said, “So we’ll have all of that.”
Ristorante Bergamo, located at 100 N. Main St., is home to several wines not found elsewhere in Greenville as a result of both Gian Pietro Ferro’s life in Italy and years spent in New York. Some of those wines, such as selections from Berlucchi Vineyards and Braida Wines in northern Italy, will be available at the deli.
The Pendelton Street shop will allow time to talk to guests and get a feel for what they like in a way that the intimacy of a restaurant does not.
“We’ll have the opportunity to spend more time with folks,” Kathy Ferro said.
