GE’s 3,500-person Power & Water operations in Greenville are shifting in the wake of GE’s $10.6 billion acquisition of Alstom’s power and grid businesses. The new entity, GE Power, will be headquartered in Schenectady, N.Y., but will not mean workforce changes for its Greenville operations, said officials today.
Made up of GE Power & Water and Alstom Power, GE Power will have 65,000 employees in 150 countries with estimated revenues of $30 billion. The reorganization will help GE power products more competitive and efficient, and will lead to overall business growth, said Joe Mastrangelo, who will lead GE Power’s Gas Power Systems division. GE Power will include five other divisions: power services, steam power systems, distributed power, GE Hitachi nuclear power and water & process technologies.
“I don’t really see major changes in Greenville and what we’re doing,” said John Lammas, previously GE Power & Water Vice President of Power Generation Engineering. For GE, Greenville “will remain the center of gas turbine technology,” he said.
