The International Center of the Upstate, a nonprofit organization that promotes diversity among local and international residents, has been renamed to Upstate International.
An Engenius grant received by the organization in 2015 lead to the creation of a new website and logo. The Engenius program awards local nonprofits annually with grants that include a complete web communications overhaul, according to a release.
The membership-driven organization offers language classes, social and learning events, business services, cultural programs, and hosts groups such as the Women’s International Club, according to Upstate International. Many events are open to the community.
“What we want to do is help encourage people to make that deeper engagement,” said Tracie Frese, executive director of Upstate International.
The nonprofit’s new name was chosen in order to connect the Center with one if its programs called Upstate International that celebrates and highlights cultural diversity during a monthlong series of events throughout the Upstate, Frese said. In partnership with Michelin and Clemson, an annual international gala and fundraiser event in February kicks off Upstate International month in March.
The newly designed website by Engenius launches the Upstate International Ambassadors Program and features a directory of international resources. The program places ambassadors for the organization in each Upstate county for local International residents to connect with.
“What the International Center has become is really kind of a hub,” Frese said. “The Center would not be what it is without our sponsors.”
