A sealed-bid process will be used to find a buyer for the former Fountain Fox Beattie House on Bennett Street in Greenville.
The City of Greenville has hired Colliers International to oversee the sales process for the third-oldest structure in the city. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
An offering memorandum will be available Oct. 21 via registration at beattiehousegreenville.com, said Nick Reinhardt, a Colliers brokerage associate in Greenville.
Members of the Beattie family lived in the house, built by Fountain Fox Beattie in 1834, until the mid-1940s, when the City of Greenville acquired the house. It served as meeting place for the Greenville Woman’s Club from 1949-2014. In order to widen Church Street, the house was moved from its original location to 1 Beattie Place and resided there for many years.
In 1983, the house was again relocated, from 1 Beattie Place to 8 Bennett St. to accommodate construction of the Liberty Towers. The property is located in the East Park Avenue Historic District in downtown Greenville. The total site is 2.43 acres, of which a .61 acre-residential lot will be sold separately.
The City of Greenville will require the purchaser to place a preservation easement on the property in order to preserve and protect the historical integrity of the house and property.
